The San Juan Island Trails Committee was created in 1999 by the board of San Juan Island Park & Recreation District (Island Rec). The Trails Committee is now affiliated with County Parks, and Island Rec continues to support us financially and in other ways. The Committee does not own any land, so future trail opportunities are encouraged through cooperation with the various agencies and landowners.

Trails Committee members are volunteers who facilitate discussion and cooperation with public officials and others who share our goals.

We have a Trails Plan outlining what we hope to accomplish in the years 2007-2012. Copies are available at the San Juan Island Library, and as a downloadable PDF here. Under this Plan we will be working to create long-distance trails between existing trails and places of interest on the island.

You are welcome to join in this effort. We meet on 2nd Wednesdays of each month from 5:00 to 6:30 in the Whidbey Island Bank meeting room, (on the corner of Mullis and Market Streets, next door to the Friday Harbor Marketplace grocery store) and we plan hikes or other events between these meeting times. Members are linked via e-mail and new members are always welcome. Send us your e-mail address and you'll be notified of Trails Committee events.
